Fabulous wine paired dinner special event at Maurizio's in Morgan Hill last Sunday evening. Crafted by our own Hecker Pass gem, Solis Winery, in tandem with talented Chef Alex Diels and with, of course, Maurizio in the kitchen as well, the whole meal, especially the sumptuous gnocchi, melted into a fantastic succession of Italian flavor. Favorite moment of the night came when Solis winemaker Mike Vanni introduced the dessert wine and, clearly speaking from the heart, explained that the making of the Anita Maria di Muscato was dedicated and named after his grandmother who was in the packed dinner audience. Having an adoring grandmother is a wonderful thing as is reaching a point where you're an appreciative grandson. The moment kindled fond memories of my grandmother, Elena Maria Maestri Campodonico, lost at age 96 five years ago this month, but always in my heart.
